Police report WAS filed
Date of occurrence: 9/5/12
Approx time: 03:45 PM
Nearby street intersections: Schiller Park
Brief description:
Sitting on park bench by the Recreation Center w/ my dog at Schiller Park and was talking on my iphone4 (16 gb), a black man about 5 feet 9 inches tall approx 20 years old came up behind me and took it right out of my hand while I was talking on it. Ran off – two bystanders took off after him and could not catch him. Police were called ASAP and came right away and looked for him. I had to seize phone service with Verizon and a Police Report was made. Day and half later it was listed for sale on Craigslist. Seller would not meet unidentified police officers. Since then 21 other cell phones are for sale under this same seller on Craigslist. Police said 12 reports similar to mine were made in Schiller Park and 15 in Short North since June of 2012.
It took place on a weekday at 3:45pm. Sunny and beautiful weather high of 74 with people all around! BE CAREFUL!!!!

Note: guy who stole it took off gps trackers asap. Even if he hadn’t Verizon and cell phone companies will not get involved in tracking. Also, important to note: neither will police.

So this is amazing. A tech-friend sent me this a while ago and it’s FREE. It’s a tracking method for your laptops and/or phones. You activate it remotely when it comes up missing.

Basically you install a tiny agent in your PC or phone, which silently waits for a remote signal to wake up and work its magic. This signal is sent either from the Internet or through an SMS message, and allows you to gather information regarding the device’s location, hardware and network status, and optionally trigger specific actions on it like taking a photo of the user with the built in camera.
