Car Break In @ Schiller Park

Police report WAS filed

Date of occurrence: 08/17/2013

Approx time: 4:00 PM

Nearby street intersections: Jaeger & Deshler

Brief description:

My car window was smashed in last Saturday afternoon at approx. 4pm in the Schiller Rec Center parking lot -- my car was in the very first parking spot facing Jaeger St. People everywhere enjoying the nice weather. I was playing tennis for approximately 45 mins. Nothing was left on seats or in plain view. Only change and old sunglasses were taken from the console. Car break ins are not shocking in GV, but car break ins at 4pm with that many people around is quite shocking -- and scary.

I agree with you, shocking!!!!! My neighbor’s house was burgled on Friday afternoon, in plain day light. And I was home, and didn’t hear a thing. I feel awful. It’s getting horrible in our neighborhood and hopefully the cops are working on who is doing all of this. I’m sorry about your car. That sucks.

My vehicle was broken into on a Friday afternoon between 4:00PM and 4:30PM. Cops don’t prevent crime. They only react to it. Homeowners who are armed and ready to defend are more likely to be in a position to immediately respond. An armed and alert community isn’t something many thieves want to deal with. Time to put up signage and start community policing again. Ask for help/advice/assistance the Police Community Liaison Officer. Bold daylight crimes are driven by drug use. Car batteries are being stolen for use in making meth. Citizens need to be more assertive. As for vehicles? Leave center console empty and open. Leave glove compartment empty and open and (as you said) nothing of value on the seats or in plain view.
