German Village Police Luncheon - Thursday, January 27

Unofficial General Notes

Those Attending: Several Columbus Police Department (CPD) members attended the meeting representing Precinct 11th - 1st, 2nd and 3rd shift

*A little about how the CDP is organized - the Southside is in Zone 2 & 5 - our area is in both Zone 2 & 5; we are all in Precinct 11 and the Southside is in Cruiser Precinct 111 & 113), Precinct 11 is staffed as follows: 1st shift - 6am-2pm (6 officers), 2nd shift - 2pm- 10pm (5 Officers) and 3rd shift - 10pm to 6am (11 Officers)

There was a full house of neighbors from German Village and Schumacher Place  (thank you Alyson, Vince, Madeline, Dawn and the other members of Schumacher Place that attended the German Village Police Luncheon)......I would encourage anyone available and interested to attend the next meeting - I think its worth your time

Items Discussed:

Prevention Methods:

UV Blacklist Invisible Ink Security Markers was brought up - the CPD reported you can order them on line - they are used to mark all your valuables - inside and outside - They use high quality permanent invisible ink.  Perfect for identification marking, wall decoration, other stealthy security uses.  Glows incredible bright blue.  Perfect for metal, glass, plastic, etc.  totally invisible, won't wash off and is visible under blacklight.  Solvent based and not recommended for use on the skin.  This is the pen you want for permanent invisible marking

Alarm Systems - Neighbors were advised to have Alarm system installed for your house, garage and/or car

Good Lighting is always a deterrent - Leave your front porch light on and/or back light - Install motion sensor activated lights

Looking Out for your Neighbor is one of the BEST Neighborhood Crime Prevention - work with your neighbors to watch your area for suspicious activity - If you have a police, fire, or medical emergency, or to report a crime in progress call 911. If you need a police officer dispatched to a non-emergency situation, call 645-4545.

Criminal Alerts:

AC and Catalytic Converter Thief - Due to metal prices increasing (anywhere from $2-4.00 per lb - averaging $3.00 a lb depending on the scrap yard), AC and Catalytic Converters are being stolen - involving damage to units and loss of units - CPD Detectives are targeting these thevies, working to check scrap yards and actively working to catch criminals (*neighbors could mark their AC with the UV Security Markers so IF they are stolen, they can be detected at scrap yard vendors)

A discussion was held on residential break-ins - the CPD stated criminals usually scout the area during the day - to see who is home and check area homes for whatever they are interesting in stealing - most crime happens during the night but some does happen during the day..........you are advised to call 645-4545 if you feel there is some suspicious criminal activity in your neighborhood - always call 911 if you have a police, fire, or medical emergency, or to report a crime in progress

Crime Reports - The CPD reminded everyone they can use their new Crime Report tool - at http://www.crimereports.com - you can search using your address for criminal activity in your neighborhood for the last 3-7-14 and 30 days

Graffiti is also on the rise - check your neighborhood

Next Meeting - Thursday, February 24th, 12:30pm
